Stephen Cotton has dedicated his career to making a real difference in the lives of transport workers. Currently, he is General Secretary of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) – a global union federation of 670 trade unions representing 19.7 million workers in 147 countries in the seafaring, port, road, rail and aviation sectors. Cotton has transformed ITF into a proactive campaigning institution advocating for the world’s transport workers.
Before taking over the lead role, he was head of ITF’s maritime section. He spearheaded global efforts which led to the landmark 2006 signing of the International Labour Organization’s Maritime Labour Convention.
